Part two of my first day in Quebec.....

Hello again, so I was off to explore armed with my new wet weather gear and a smile on my face.

The guide books were not wrong.  The cobbled narrow street of the city which is split into two, upper and lower ville, were indeed beautiful and filled with shops selling all sorts of artisan goods (and ironically enough tourist tat and copious umbrellas and ponchos) Far from putting me off, the rain was acting in my favour as other than the usual spattering of Japanese wearing their interesting outfits covered in an array of plastic ponchos, the streets were virtually empty.  It was obvious that the weather had taken some others by surprise too as they were not realising that their flip flop short combo was no match for the current weather pattern.

So after perusing the lower part of the ville, it was time to venture up the funicular (ooo err) to the upper ville.  This did not disappoint either, the stunning Chateau Frontenac dominating the skyline and I wandered again through these streets marvelling at the architecture and the history.  I had also decided a little while ago the make this trip about food too.  Forget Man v Food this was Mad Ginger Bird From England on a Canadian Adventure v Food.  And so I went in search of Le Chic Shack on recommendation of the Rough Guide and the Bison burger with local beer for lunch as I (wet) people watched by the window did the trick!!

Then it was time to walk off the bison and explore some more, but the rain had picked up by now so I ducked into a couple of shops for a mooch.  And mooch I did.  And shop.  A proper waterproof coat, one I would wear back home without fear of embarrassment and sweating like a pig.  I must have been in there for about an hour as when I ventured outside the rain was of  Noah and his Ark proportions.  It was running down the road in rivers and as it was about 3pm I thought I would cut my losses and head back to the hotel to see if it would ease up.

Once home, the comforting glow of the garage ever present, I took off my wet things, slipped into my pj's and sat watching the TV with every intention of going back out later for some tea.  Yeah right. I woke up on the bed at midnight!! Rock and roll!!

So here I sit at 8am on day 5 of my adventure, my second full day in Quebec, ready to go see what I didn't yesterday and so far it is not raining! (although the cheerful weather channel assures me that won't last long) I will take my chances with my newly purchased wet weather gear and see what else I can find in this beautiful city.

Until later faithful followers, TTFN....! xxx
